General Notes on Lawn Care Products:
In addition, you will find many lawn
care products that are packaged in bags that state how much
area the product covers in terms of square footage. For example,
you may purchase a lawn fertilizer that treats 10,000 square
feet or a weed control that covers 5,000 square feet. Square
footage of course is determined by multiplying the length
times the width in a given area. For example, a 10 x
10 area has 100 square feet.
It is always best if you try to determine
the square footage of an area before applying a particular
product. This will help ensure that you apply the proper amount
of product over a given area. It is particularly important
that you not over apply most products. But sometimes it is
not easy to calculate the exact square footage of large, irregular
shaped areas.
But may people do know the approximate
size of their property. For example, they may have a _ acre
lot or two-acre lot. Although by no means exact, by subtracting
the square footage for the foot print of the house (first
floor), the dimensions of the driveway, the garage, all plant
beds and any other areas that are not grass, you can get a
rough idea of how many bags you might need.
Here is a breakdown on acreage as it
translates to square footage:
1 acre = 43,560 square feet
1/2 acre = 21,780 square feet
1/4 acre = 10,890 square feet
